Founder & President
James spent the first 10 years of his career providing financial advice to affluent families at some of the largest banks in the world including J.P. Morgan Private Bank. But having grown up in Kalamazoo Michigan in an entrepreneurial family with several privately held businesses, he desired to take a similar path and eventually entered the private sector. He spent the next seven years building and successfully exiting two of the larger advisory firms in the area. With close to 20 years of experience in a variety of financial service settings combined with his familial understanding of what closely held entrepreneurial families and executives need, he saw a unique opportunity to bring offerings that the marketplace was missing. With this specialized vision in mind, he collaborated with some of the strongest family offices and investment managers in the world, to launch Cypress Capital Wealth Management. The firms customized, service centric approach brings the highest level of investment offerings to our clients helping them achieve their financial goals for generations to come.
In his off time, James enjoys golf, skiing and traveling with friends and family. He lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan with his wife, Elizabeth, his daughters Olivia, Alexandria and Georgia, and their two Bernese Mountain dogs, Palmer and Hogan. James is passionate about supporting CS Mott Children’s Hospital, the American Cancer Society, and Youth on Course where he sits on the Board of Directors.
With close to 20 years of market experience Nick spent the first half of his career as a member of the Chicago Mercantile and Chicago Board of Options Exchanges helping build Cygnus Atratus into one of the largest independent trading operations in the world. In 2011 Nick became a partner at DSM Trading, a registered broker dealer. While there he learned the intricacies of growing a firm organically and profitably with a focus on portfolio risk management. Nick consults with Cypress Capital to bring institutional risk management strategies to our team.
In his off time, Nick enjoys golf and growing his library of nonfiction hardcover books. He lives in Hinsdale, Illinois with his wife, Jeannie, their son Austin, identical twin daughters Lauren and Shannon, and their dog Spady. Nick is passionate about supporting the Dupage Youth Travel Basketball League and Hinsdale Little League with his time and energy where he coaches and mentors young men and women.

Over the past 16 years Mike has worked with over 400 retirement plan clients ranging from startup companies to fortune 500 companies to professional sports teams. Mike’s leadership provides Cypress Capital the ability to help our clients’ businesses improve efficiencies, including delivering solutions for their employees.
In his time off, Mike enjoys golf, college football and traveling with his family. Mike and his family are strong supporters of Best Buddies International and the American Cancer Society. Born and raised in Ann Arbor, Mike now lives in Plymouth with his wife, Stephanie and their four children, Drew, Elliot, Quinn & Maxwell.
Selected as an Analyst for the Michigan State Student Venture Capital Fund in partnership with Red Cedar Ventures, Joey has experience evaluating business propositions, projections, and exit strategies from startups seeking private capital. Recently, Joey has continued to build his network in the alternatives sector, providing deal sourcing and valuation services for one of West Michigan’s most recognized Private Equity Commercial Real Estate Firms. Cypress values Joey’s background where he assists in projects requiring creative processing, problem solving, and sharp analytical skills.
Joey enjoys spending his free time golfing, connecting with friends, and spending time with family. He’s an alumni supporter of the Evans Scholar Foundation and continues to advocate for organizations that provide young golfers’ opportunities to learn and grow the game including Youth on Course, The First Tee, and PGA Jr. League.
Addie recently graduated honors from Michigan State University with a degree in Psychology with a minor in Leadership of Organizations. During her time there, she was committed to excel both inside and outside of the classroom. She was awarded the Board of Trustees award for earning a 4.0 overall GPA. Addie has experience in Industrial/Organizational Psychology academic research, studying organizational behavior, personnel attitudes, and job performance. She also has experience in Human Resources, working in Talent Development for a non-profit organization. She is passionate about helping people reach their goals and potential through improving corporate culture and is an strong asset to the Cypress Capital team.
Outside of work, Addie likes to read, hike, travel, and attend Michigan State University sporting events.

Tripp Rudisill III
Chief Investment Officer & Portfolio Manager
Tripp is the founder and Chief Investment Officer of Spartan and was the CIO of its predecessor firm, Spartan Capital Advisors. Mr. Rudisill spent the first 10 years of his career managing equity portfolios for Friess Associates, Maverick Capital Management, UBS/Dillion Read, and Millennium Capital Management. Over the last 15 years heading Spartan’s RIA business, Tripp has managed portfolios and separately managed accounts for high-net worth individuals, family offices, and institutions. Utilizing his 25 years of investment, risk management, and advisory experience, Tripp formed Spartan to offer clients high quality investment strategies and solutions. Being an active manager while assessing risks and opportunities with all clients, Tripp was adamant in establishing a firm built on the foundation of partnership.
In his free time, Tripp enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and watching ACC basketball. Tripp has volunteered on the capital campaigns for Charlotte Country Day School and Christ Church Charlotte and has been a youth soccer and basketball coach for the Charlotte YMCA. Tripp resides in Charlotte, North Carolina with his wife Kamie and daughters Annie, Coco, and Molly.
Recently joining Spartan in June of 2022, Scott brings 25 years of investment management and capital markets experience. Previously, Scott was the Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer for Friess Associates, overseeing $10b in AUM across four equity funds and hedged equity strategies. Prior to Friess, Mr. Gates honed his analytic and quant skills as an Equity Analyst and Portfolio Manager at Gardener Lewis Asset Management, a trader in the foreign exchange department of Butler Harlow PLC, and an options trader on the floor of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange.
In his time off, Scott enjoys skiing and golf and is a dedicated Crossfitter. Advocating the importance of education and affordable urban housing, he actively serves on the Boards of Wilmington Friends School and Woodlawn Trustees. Scott resides in Lewes, Delaware with his wife Stephanie and their two dogs, Pippa and Moose, with their two daughters, Laura and Merritt residing in Vermont.

Joe has spent his career as an entrepreneurial financial services executive who moves seamlessly between management, strategy, and business development while building lasting relationships in the institutional, family office, and high-net worth spaces. Most recently, Mr. Fields retired as the Managing Partner of Friess Associates. Throughout his career, Joe had the pleasure of working with a broad range of clients with varying advisory needs such as private, public, and corporate pensions, foundations and endowments, and multiple family offices and high-net worth individuals. Notable clientele includes General Motors, Chrysler, Con Ed, Honda Motors, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Baylor, Auburn, and the University of Georgia, the State of Florida, as well as the Long Island Railroad and Chicago Transit Authority. Joe draws on deep relationships developed over his four-decade career where he served in leadership capacities at Alex. Brown and Smith Barney as Managing Director of Asset Management.
Fields currently serves as the Director of the Evans Scholars Foundation, an organization supporting over 11,800 young men and women with four-year full college scholarships. Joe has continued to serve his alma maters and sits on numerous investment committees. Mr. Fields resides in Baltimore, Maryland with his wife Barbara of 38 years. They have four children and currently four grandchildren.
